Manderfield Family Scholarship Fund

Background: In 1934, Manderfield’s Home Bakery originated in a small kitchen on Melvin Street in Appleton, WI. Since then, it has become an institution in the Fox Valley, producing baked goods out of three locations with 120 employees, including a 4th generation of family members.

The late Dennis Manderfield and his wife Lois are predominantly responsible for cultivating this establishment. They believed in hands-on practice, hard work, utilizing quality ingredients, creative innovations, giving to the community, and providing employment opportunities for people with diverse backgrounds and abilities. These principals have paved the way for their children to succeed and pioneer the bakery to where it is today. Dennis and Lois, along with their son Mike have all been inducted into the Wisconsin Bakers Association Hall of Fame.

Dennis claimed, “People will always need bread, and baking is a profession that will exist forever”. He believed in hands-on training, but also felt that a formal education was crucial. A graduate of Dunwoody institute in Minnesota, he understood the importance of learning basic techniques and principles prior to becoming a professional baker. We are proud to keep our family’s legacy alive and contribute to the growth and integrity of the bakery industry in the Fox Valley. It is an honor to provide this scholarship each year to a deserving young person in our community.
